What We Do

Professional Water Heater Installation

Whether your existing water heater has failed, you're upgrading to a more energy-efficient model, or you're installing a new hot water system in a property without one, our qualified plumbers provide a complete, fully compliant installation service. We install all types of water heating systems including unvented hot water cylinders, vented (gravity-fed) cylinders, electric immersion heaters, and point-of-use instantaneous water heaters.

Unvented hot water cylinders (such as Megaflo, Santon, and Gledhill) require installation by a competent person registered with a relevant scheme (such as APHC or CIPHE) under Part G of the Building Regulations. Our engineers hold the required qualifications to carry out these installations legally and safely, providing the mandatory Building Regulations notification on completion.

We begin every installation with a full assessment of your property's hot water demand, mains pressure, and available space. This ensures we specify the correct cylinder capacity and type for your household — avoiding the common mistake of an undersized unit that runs out of hot water during peak morning demand. We advise on the most energy-efficient options and, where applicable, solar-ready cylinders compatible with future renewable upgrades.

All installations include commissioning to the manufacturer's specification, setting of thermostat temperatures to 60°C (to prevent Legionella growth), pressure relief valve testing, and a full handover of the unit's controls and maintenance requirements. We also provide a written record of the installation for your property file.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a vented and unvented cylinder?

A vented cylinder relies on a cold water storage tank (usually in the loft) and uses gravity to supply hot water. An unvented cylinder connects directly to the mains supply, delivering hot water at mains pressure — giving you a much stronger shower and eliminating the need for a loft tank. Unvented systems require specialist installation under Part G Building Regulations.

How long does a hot water cylinder installation take?

A like-for-like cylinder replacement typically takes one full day. A new installation — particularly an unvented system replacing a vented one — may take slightly longer as it involves modifying the pipework configuration. We'll give you an accurate timeframe during your survey.

What size cylinder do I need?

As a general guide: a 120-litre cylinder suits 1–2 people, 150 litres for 2–3 people, 180–210 litres for 3–4 people, and 250+ litres for larger households. We'll assess your household's peak demand during our survey and recommend the correct capacity to ensure you never run short of hot water.

Do I need Building Regulations approval for a new cylinder?

Unvented hot water cylinders must be installed by a competent person registered under a government-approved scheme and notified to Building Control under Part G of the Building Regulations. We handle this notification as part of our installation service and provide you with the compliance certificate for your records.

Can you install a solar-compatible cylinder?

Yes. If you're considering solar thermal panels in the future, we can install a twin-coil cylinder now that's pre-configured to accept a solar input — saving you the cost of replacing the cylinder again later. We'll discuss this option during your survey if it's relevant to your property.
